In February 2010 Deafheaven formed in San Francisco as a duo, consisting of singer George Clarke and guitarist Kerry McCoy. The two had already played in the Grindcore band Rise Of Caligula before. With Deafheaven, however, they had an obviously more diverse musical style in mind, the influences of Black Metal, Shoegazing and Post-Rock are unmistakable. Their album "Sunbather", released in 2013, was highly praised internationally and made it into numerous annual bestseller lists under the keyword "Blackgaze". In the meantime, Deafheaven has grown into a quintet and has completed work on "New Bermuda", which is now their third album. It is released on the ANTI label and quotes the Death Metal demigods Dissection and Morbid Angel, with blackened influences of Behemoth and Metallica from the Cliff Burton era.
With "New Bermuda", Deafheaven clearly leaves their comfort zone and with blunt force and wild rage in their luggage, they make out of all the small pieces of wood left and right of the path. "New Bermuda" offers five extraordinarily long, brutally beautiful tracks with running times of about ten minutes and thus simply perfect metal.
