Deadwing was Porcupine Tree's eighth studio album, first released in 2005 following their breakthrough album In Absentia. It was the second in a series of three albums that many consider the pinnacle of the band's artistic achievements. It also echoed the band's new commercial success, becoming the band's best-selling album of the period.
Based on a screenplay written by Steven Wilson and director Mike Bennion, about half of the songs started out as part of the film score. However, when the film did not go into production, Wilson instead made it the basis for the next PT album, with additional material co-written with the other band members.
The album features the classic singles: "Shallow" and "Lazarus", which Wilson still performs live with his current band. Other popular songs on the album are "Open Car" and "Arriving Somewhere But Not Here"
