At the Gates stands among the true pioneers of melodic death metal. Their influence extends far beyond Sweden, with albums that defined an entire genre.

Formed in Gothenburg, Sweden in the early ’90s, At the Gates brought a fresh melodic edge to death metal. With their groundbreaking album Slaughter of the Soul (1995), they established the “Gothenburg sound” – a perfect fusion of melody, aggression, and emotion.  Their sharp guitar work and the unmistakable vocals of Tomas Lindberg created a sound both fierce and memorable. At the Gates inspired countless bands across both death metal and metalcore scenes worldwide. After a long hiatus, the band made a triumphant return in 2014 with At War with Reality, followed by acclaimed releases like To Drink from the Night Itself and The Nightmare of Being. Their evolution continues while maintaining the same fiery passion that built their legacy. The blend of melancholy, melody, and aggression keeps At the Gates timeless and relevant.
